Hon. Justice Adonyo on the State of Business at Commercial Court
Hon. Justice Dr Adonyo the Head of the Commercial Division of the High Court

The Head of the Commercial Division of the High Court, Hon. Justice Dr Peter Adonyo, on Tuesday (August 25, 2020) held a press briefing where he discussed the state of business at the Division.

Hon. Justice Adonyo highlighted the challenges, achievements and workload of the Division. He shared that in spite of the lock-down and its attendant challenges, the Court had made strides in clearing backlog, which he attributed to administrative reforms and the staff’s dedication.

He said that at the close of last calendar year, there were 4,670 cases pending adjudication whose monetary value was more than Shs4.1 trillion. He added that since the year began, the Court has registered 1,788 cases and completed 1,165 thereby unlocking Shs2.7 trillion.

On the milestones the Division has registered, Hon. Justice Adonyo said there have been infrastructural renovations, physical counting and reorganization of case files, installation of necessary equipment, improved service delivery, boosted staffing levels and stakeholder engagements.

Hon. Justice Adonyo urged the media to take advantage of the good relationship with the court's administration to access the right information. This, he said, would help ensure that the public has access to accurate and timely information about the Division's work.

Present at the briefing was the Division's Registrar, HW Susan Kanyange and Mr. Solomon Muyita, the Principal Communications Officer.
